November 09, 2019 - 1:45 pm

Day 1 of the Global Series between the Sabres and Lightning in Sweden didn't go Buffalo's way. Sam Reinhart tried to force the Lightning's hand, but Andrei Vasilevskiy and the Lightning were able hold them off.

Reinhart got things started again for the Sabres, scoring midway through the first for his third goal in a row for the team and his eigth of the year. Tampa goalie Curtis McElhinney took the net off with his skates but it wasn't enough to take the goal away.

Late in the period, Brandon Montour took a penalty trying to stand up for his teammates and took a roughing penalty, which the Lightning capitalized on. Pat Maroon got his 2nd of the season.

The Lightning opened things up in the 2nd period and were rewarded with an early goal from Victor Hedman. Sabres coach Ralph Krueger had some things to say to the referree. A screen in front made it look like the puck was tipped high by Alex Killorn.
