Sabres release 2019-2020 regular season schedule

The National Hockey League and the Buffalo Sabres released their schedule for their 2019-2020 regular season on Tuesday.

Buffalo will open its 50th season on the road for the first time since the 2013-14 season when the teams heads to Pittsburgh to face the Penguins on Thursday, October 3 at PPG Paints Arena. It will be the first game under the leadership of new head coach Ralph Krueger.

The Sabres will open their home portion of the schedule on Saturday, October 5 at KeyBank Center when Jack Hughes, P.K. Subban and the New Jersey Devils pay a visit to Buffalo.

The month of October will feature 13 games, which includes the team's annual three-game road trip to California to play the Anaheim Ducks, Los Angeles Kings and the San Jose Sharks. Following the matchup with the Sharks in San Jose on Saturday, October 19, the Sabres return home for the second half of the home-and-home series with the Sharks.

After playing two games in the first weekend of November, the Sabres will have five days off to get ready for their trip to Stockholm, Sweden as part of the NHL Global Series against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Sabres and Lightning will drop the puck on Friday, November 8 at 2 p.m. EST, while start time for Saturday, November 9 is set for 1 p.m. EST.

Upon their return to North America, the Sabres will return to Buffalo for a two-game homestand against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday, November 14, and against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, November 16.

The Sabres will play the defending Eastern Conference champion Boston Bruins for the first of four matchups this season on Thursday, November 21 at T.D. Garden in Boston.

After the opening game of December on Monday the 2nd, the Sabres will embark on their Western Canada road trip, capped off by Krueger's first return to Edmonton since coaching the Oilers back in the 2012-13 season.

Once the Sabres return from Western Canada, they will play in the first matchup of the season against the Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, December 10 at KeyBank Center.

The Sabres will ring in the new decade of 2020 at home on Thursday, January 2 when Krueger and the Sabres will face the Oilers for the second and final time of the season.

Leading up to the NHL All-Star break, the Sabres will have their nine-day bye week before returning to game action on Tuesday, January 28 to start a season-long five-game homestand at KeyBank Center. That homestand will feature matchups with the Senators, Montreal Canadiens, Columbus Blue Jackets, Colorado Avalanche and the Detroit Red Wings.

After a road game against the New York Rangers on Friday, February 7, the Sabres return to Buffalo for another four-game homestand against the Ducks, Red Wings, Blue Jackets and Toronto Maple Leafs.

The final 16 games of the regular season will feature matchups against 14 Eastern Conference opponents, and conclude with the regular season finale on Saturday, April 4 against the Philadelphia Flyers at KeyBank Center.

Overall, the Sabres will play in 14 back-to-back sets, five home-and-home series, and in eight afternoon games at KeyBank Center.

  • Saturday, December 21 - vs. Los Angeles - 1 p.m.
  • Saturday, January 11 - vs. Vancouver - 1 p.m.
  • Saturday, February 1 - vs. Columbus - 1 p.m.
  • Sunday, February 9 - vs. Anaheim - 3 p.m.
  • Sunday, February 23 - vs. Winnipeg - 3 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 21 - vs. Chicago - 2 p.m.
  • Sunday, March 22 - vs. NY Rangers - 3 p.m.

The Sabres will also have more plans to announce for the celebration of the team's 50th season in the NHL. More details will be released at a later date.
