Buffalo, NY (WGR 550) - As expected the Sabres have signed college free agent Brandon Hickey to a two-year, entry-level deal. Buffalo acquired Hickey from Arizona in exchange for Hudson Fasching.

Hickey was drafted in the third round of the 2014 Entry Draft by Calgary and then was traded to the Coyotes in the Mike Smith deal.

Arizona didn’t think it could sign him so he was traded to Buffalo. The Sabres had until Aug. 15 to sign him or he would’ve become an unrestricted free agent, but Jason Botterill said he wasn’t concerned about getting him inked to a deal after July 1.

Hickey played four years at BU and was teammates with Jack Eichel, Evan Rodrigues and Danny O’Regan. This past season, he was the Terriers captain. Hickey did participate in this week’s Sabres development camp.

Buffalo signed a goalie for Rochester in Scott Wedgewood. The 25-year-old was taken in the third round of the 2010 Entry Draft by New Jersey.

Wedgewood has played 24 NHL games with the Devils and Arizona going 7-10-5 with a 3.05 goals against and .903 save percentage. He played seven AHL games last season with Ontario and Binghamton.
