The Bills will try to bounce back from their 31-13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last week when they face the Washington Redskins at New Era Field in Orchard Park Sunday. Here are three keys and storylines:

  • Frank the Tank

Bills RB Frank Gore needs exactly 100 yards to pass Barry Sanders for 3rd on the all-time rushing list. Gore has run for 15,170 yards in his 15-year career and has 45 career 100+-yard rushing games. While gaining 100-yards would be a great personal accomplishment, it may also go a long way in helping the Bills win the game. The Redskins rank 28th in the NFL, giving up over 137 yards on the ground per game. The Bills are 8th in the league running for over 130 yards per game, but failed to run for 100 yards as a team last week for the first time this season. They need to get back on track and back to running the ball well.

  • Hey, rookie!

With Washington quarterback Case Keenum still in concussion protocol, rookie Dwayne Haskins will make his first NFL start Sunday in Orchard Park. The first round pick from Ohio State has seen action in two games this season, going 12-for-22 for 140 yards with no touchdowns and four interceptions. The Bills enter the game with the third-ranked pass defense in the NFL, both in yards per game (194.4) and yards per pass (5.62). Head coach SeanMcDermott and defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier need to confuse and then smother the rookie and give him no chance.

  • Stop the run!

Simply put, the Bills have to do a much better job of stopping the run than they did last week when the Eagles ran all over them, totaling 218 yards on 5.3 yards per carry. Overall, the Bills run defense has been pretty good, but inconsistent. They rank 18th in the league giving up 109.4 yards per game and 17th at 4.23 per carry. The Redskins don't possess a great running game, averaging less than 85 yards a game, but Adrian Peterson has run for 275 yards and averaging 4.8 yards a carry over his last three games.
