From the Locker Room: Sabres-Penguins

November 19, 2018 - 10:37 pm

Never a doubt in this one. The "Comeback Kids" struck again, as the Buffalo Sabres came all the way back from 4-1 down in the second period to defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-4 in overtime. Jack Eichel netted the game-winning goal in the extra frame, putting the wraps on a three-game road trip that saw the blue and gold snatch six points from the Winnipeg Jets, Minnesota Wild and the Penguins. Their winning streak reaches six for the first time since January of 2010.

Let's go inside the locker room to hear from Eichel, Casey Mittelstadt, Carter Hutton, Conor Sheary and Phil Housley after the raucous victory.

Jack Eichel:

On his game-winner: "Just tried to get a shot off. Nice to see it go in. Had a few chances earlier... we found a way to win a game and that's credit to all the guys in the room."

Mentality: "There's that desperation in our game in the third period. We've been a resilient bunch so far, always ready for that important push. Great to see how this team sticks together."

Casey Mittelstadt:

No stranger to a deficit: "We stayed persistent. We've done this before. It was a good win for us, especially against a team like that."

On his line's play: "We're developing chemistry right now. We're making it tough on other teams, and we disrupted a lot of chances tonight."

Carter Hutton:

On the effort: "We never stop working. Started to tilt the ice a bit late in this one, against a good team over there."

On his big saves all night, and the 5-on-3 PK: "I'm just trying to be patient. They have a ton of weapons all over the ice. My competitive nature came out on that one. It's also a major mental battle."

Conor Sheary:

On the Penguins' tribute for him: "It was nice. I grew up here in the NHL. They were a second home to me. It was nice of them to do that."

Playing former teammates: "It's nice playing against your buddies. Definitely weird, but it was great to get the win tonight."

Phil Housley:

Never say die: "It's unbelievable, the resiliency over these past two weeks. I thought our special teams were huge tonight. The key moment of the game was that third goal by Casey Nelson. To get within a goal before the end of the second period was huge."

On Tage Thompson's development: "He's gotten better every game he's played to this point. When you finally score a goal, it goes that much further. He's getting heavy in battles and using that release to his advantage."
