Two power play goals proved to be the difference in the battle of the league's two worst teams, as Arizona capitalized on its opportunities en route to a 3-1 win at the KeyBank Center on Wednesday.

The first came just 3:38 into the game as Dylan Strome beat Chad Johnson, and the second came at 17:44 by way of Derek Stepan. In between the two Arizona goals, Jordan Nolan was able to corral the puck in front and stuff it home, for his third goal of the season.

Minutes into the second period, Linus Ullmark replaced Chad Johnson, who took a puck to the mask during the first period of play. Ullmark stopped 12 of the 13 shots that he faced, while Johnson stopped 13 of the 15 shots directed his way.

After a scoreless second period, the critical blow came at the 6:32 mark of the third, when Richard Panik beat Linus Ullmark five-hole to score his 10th of the season, and extend the Arizona lead to two. Max Domi added the 4th goal via empty net, at 19:50.

Go inside the locker room to see what Ryan O'Reilly, Jordan Nolan, Brendan Guhle and Phil Houlsey had to say following the loss:

Ryan O'Reilly:

On the powerplay struggles: "They came with a lot of pressure, we just couldn't get the looks that we wanted."

On being flat: "We didn't get anything going, sometimes that happens and you have to find a way to grind it out and we didn't."

Jordan Nolan:

On being flat: "Not a lot of energy out there, not a lot of compete, with two bottom place teams there should be a little bit of pride out there."

On Domi fight: "I came after him and he didn't like it so we got after it, but he only had one glove on so it didn't last too long."

Brendan Ghule:

On pressing at times: "I was just playing out there and trying to have fun, there are some plays you want back."

On being flat: "We had some good chances early, and weren't able to capitalize on it, and that may have set us down a bit."

Phil Housley:

On the off day yesterday: "I didn't like the response and energy from our team, we need to do a better job competing."

On responding to Nashville game and Arizona matchup: "It's just where we are as a team, we cant handle any success. It was a meaningful game because you are last place in the league, and that's what is hard to swallow."
