Gamenight: Avalanche lead Sabres 3-0 in first period

Jake McCabe took the first penalty of the night when he was called for hooking nearly halfway through the first period. Tyson Jost was able to tip a Tyson Barrie point shot past Carter Hutton and into the net. The power play goal gave the Avalanche a 1-0 lead. Barrie and Mikko Rantanen was credited with an asisst on the game's first goal.

Colorado's second goal also came on the man advantage when Colin Wilson was able to recover in the slot and wire a shot home to double the lead to 2-0. Wilson was hit by a delected shot from Samuel Girard. Both Girard and former Sabre draft pick J.T. Compher received assists on the score. The goal came after Hutton was called for tripping.

Carl Soderberg scored the first even strength goal of the night to expand the lead to 3-0 late in the opening stanza. The goal was the third for the visitors on 11 shots on goal. Gabriel Bourque was credited with the lone assist on the goal.
