Gameday: Bills avoid the shutout, trail the Colts, 24-5

October 21, 2018 - 1:48 pm

The Buffalo Bills are going through a rough outing in Indianapolis, trailing the Colts 24-5 after coming undone in the second quarter. Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has ripped up the Bills defense, going 14-of-19 for 147 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Colts running back Marlon Mack has 84 yards on 13 carries.

Adding to the problems for the Bills is that running back LeSean McCoy is out for the remainder of the game with a head injury.

The Bills offense has continued to struggle. Quarterback Derek Anderson has had an up-and-down day,  15-of-20 for 124 yards and 1 interception.

While the first quarter was rather dull and lacking action, the Bills wound up falling apart with two turnovers and the usually stout defense gave up three touchdowns to Luck in the second quarter alone.

The Colts first struck with a long 13-play drive that ended with a pass from Luck to tight end Erik Swoope, then Luck and the Colts piled on a second touchdown after a fumble from Bills tight end Charles Clay. Marlon Mack took a swing pass and finished off the drive to convert on the turnover. Finally, Luck found T.Y. Hilton to make it 21-0 on a nine play drive.

Anderson attempted to get the Bills to within striking distance on a two minute drill, but had a pass picked off by Colts safety Mike Mitchell and returned deep into Bills territory. The Colts then converted on the field goal to end the half up 24-0. Buffalo added a field goal after the Bills first drive after halftime and a Colts high snap resulted in a safety, cutting the lead to 24-5.
